Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings had 33 shots on goal, but were shut out for the second straight preseason game, losing 3-0 to the Knoxville Ice Bears Sunday afternoon at the Landers Center.

The RiverKings controlled play in the first period until the final minute of the frame. Eric Satim centered a pass, which bounced around until Travis Janke scooped it up and beat Adam Courchaine for a 1-0 Ice Bears lead with 2.5 seconds left in the first.

Knoxville carried that momentum into the second, converting on an early power play to go up 2-0. With Justin Gvora in the box for boarding Charles Baldwin banged in a rebound just 1:09 into the period to double the lead. Just over seven minutes later Ben Power beat Courchaine over the shoulder to give the Ice Bears a 3-0 lead.

Courchaine got the start in net for the RiverKings and stopped 15 of 18 shots before being replaced midway through the second period by Chris Czarnota. He turned away all 10 shots he faced over the course of the second half of the game.

The RiverKings had just two power-play chances, and didn't convert on either of them.

The RiverKings open their 2014-15 quest for the President's Cup on October 24 and 25 at the Landers Center in Southaven, Miss. Receive a ticket to both games that weekend starting at $17 and get a free t-shirt. Groups of 15 or more who purchase tickets will receive complimentary tickets to a future RiverKings home game.
