Kalamazoo Wings News Release
ELMIRA - Rebounding from a opening night loss, the Kalamazoo Wings (1-1-0-0), led by a three-point night (2 goals, 1 assist) from Ludwig Blomstrand defeated the Elmira Jackals (0-1-0-0) 6-2 Saturday night at the First Arena.
Kalamazoo fell behind early as Elmira's Allan McPherson (2nd) lifted a second chance opportunity over the shoulder of Scott Munroe 2:22 into the game.
Responding over a minute later, Blomstrand evened the game at 1-1 by sneaking into the high-slot and one-timing a Curtis Valk centering pass.
Struggling the night before with special teams, the K-Wings power-play would have no issues on Saturday going for 3-for-7 with a man-advantage, including scoring on their first two power-play chances of the contest.
On their first power-play of the game, Blomstrand recorded his second goal of the night capitalizing on a five-on-three advantage to give the K-Wings the lead.
With one second remaining on the second penalty, Alex Mallet (1st) poked the puck past the goal line to extend the K-Wings lead to 3-1.
Paul Mcllveen (1st) brought the Jackals back to within a single goal scoring 1:28 into the second period; however, the K-Wings answered with four answered goals.
Adding insurance midway in the stanza, Sacha Guimond (1st) struck for the K-Wings third power-play goal of the night.
Dane Fox (2nd) and Nathan Longpre (1st) wrapped up the K-Wings scoring by registering back-to-back goals 1:30 apart late in the third.
Kalamazoo will conclude a three-game road swing this Wednesday, October 22nd with a 7:05 p.m. encounter against the Indy Fuel.
The K-Wings home opener will occur on Friday, October 24th versus Fort Wayne Komets at Wings Stadium during their 11th Annual Orange Ice Game. Fans are encouraged to dress in costumes and participate in Halloween festivities.
Tickets for all K-Wings home games are currently on sale at the Wings Stadium Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations, including www.ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000. Ticket office hours are Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays.
