Blazers Shutout 3-0 in Vancouver

Kamloops Blazers News Release

The Kamloops Blazers (6-5-1-0) could not buy a goal in a 3-0 loss to the Vancouver Giants (5-4-0-0) on Friday night.

The Blazers were the better team in the first 10 minutes of the first period. They had their chances as Quinn Benjafield rang a shot off the crossbar.

The Giants took over midway through the period and goaltender Cole Kehler had to be sharp for the Blazers. He was in stopping all 16 shots he faced in a scoreless first period.

The second period was the same story, as the Blazers couldn't buy a goal. Giants' goaltender Payton Lee stopped Logan McVeigh in tight and defenseman Brady Gaudet hit a crossbar.

The Giants opened the scoring with a power play marker. Dmitry Osipov's shot fooled Kehler as it was deflected by a Blazer stick and in for a 1-0 Giants lead.

Arvin Atwal made it 2-0 for the Giants on an awkward bounce. Vladimir Bobylev's shot bounced off the end wall, over the Blazers net and right on the stick of Atwal for a 2-0 Giants lead.

The Blazers did not put up much of a fight in the third period as the Giants held a slight shot clock advantage of 5-4.

Tyler Benson added a goal on a great pass by Matt Bellerive on the power play for an open net to round out the scoring.

Kehler was solid in goal for the Blazers with 28 saves, while Lee stopped all 23 shots he faced.

The Blazers were 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Giants finished 2-for-5.

The Blazers will close their brief road trip Saturday night in Seattle.
