Amarillo Bulls News Release

AMARILLO, TX - One Win...

That's what the Amarillo Bulls were looking for to start the ball rolling on home ice and gain that confidence.

The one win is what they got on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. Goaltender Anton Martinsson stopped 28 of 29 shots he faced for his first North American Hockey League victory to lift the Bulls past the Lone Star Brahmas 2-1. It was the Bulls first win on home ice and third of the season.

Defenseman Tristan Rostagno and forward Cody Gylling notched the Amarillo Bulls goals in the first period and goaltender Martinsson did the rest after that making some outstanding saves to keep his team in front.

The Bulls and the Brahmas will play round two of Battle of the Cattle Saturday night in the Texas Panhandle at 7 pm.

Great start by the Amarillo Bulls in the opening period which was their best in a long time. The Bulls raced out to a 2-0 advantage thanks to goals from Tristan Rostagno and Cody Gylling. For Rostagno, his goal came at the 5:34 mark on a quick wrist shot from Addison Runey and JJ Huerena. Near the end of the stanza, the Bulls power play struck as Ruslan Rakhmatov fired the puck across Cody Gylling who was able to fire a shot past TJ Black. Kasper Emanuelsson also had an assist on the play. That second goal chased goaltender TJ Black who was replaced by Jake Kupsky. The Bulls outshot the Brahmas 12-4.

Penalties hurt the Amarillo Bulls including a controversial five-minute major that would lead to the Lone Star goal and cut the lead to 2-1. The Brahmas had the momentum on their side with many of their 16 shots in the stanza coming on the power play.

The Bulls third period play was strong limiting the Brahmas chances and opportunities in front of Martinsson. The Brahmas pulled their goaltender in the final minute looking to get an equalizer on a 6 on 4 (after a late penalty) but Martinsson closed the door in the final seconds.

Goaltender Jake Kupsky came on in relief and stopped all 12 shots he faced in the final 40 minutes, including one from Sebastien Romeo.

The Amarillo Bulls were outshot by the Lone Star Brahmas 29-24 including 9-5 in the final period. There were eight total power plays with the visiting Brahmas having the majority. Lone Star was 1 for 6, while the Bulls were 1 for 2.

It's Pink In The Rink Night on Saturday when the Bulls host the Brahmas at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The first 500 fans through the doors receive a Pink Bulls' T-shirt. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness and the American Cancer Society.
