Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Sound Tigers scored their second win of the season as they went on to defeat their divisional rivals, the Albany Devils, 5-4 in a shootout at Webster Bank Arena. Defenseman Griffin Reinhart tallied his first professional goal in the tilt and tied the game 4-4 at 12:34 of the third frame. After a scoreless overtime period, the game went into a shootout where John Persson and Kael Moulierat scored to secure a Sound Tigers victory.

21 seconds into the first frame, right-winger Steve Bernier scored to get Albany on the board first. Albany maintained a 1-0 for most of the first period but with 1.5 seconds left in the period, a shot from Johan Sundstrom would tie the game 1-1. Sebastian Collberg and Colton Gillies both picked up assists on the goal.

Back and forth scoring in the second period had Albany up 4-3 at the start of the third. Reinhart's slap shot from the blue line was the loan goal of the final frame - forcing the game into overtime.

Per new AHL rules, the seven-minute overtime period now starts with four men on the ice per each team, then goes to three-on-three at the first stoppage after the four-minute mark. However, in tonight's game, a goaltender interference penalty was given to Albany forward Paul Thompson at 3:38 giving the Sound Tigers a four-on-three man advantage. Despite having an extra man on the ice, the Sound Tigers could not score on Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid.

Albany shot first in the three-round shootout. Mike Sislo scored for Albany in the first round and John Persson also made his shot. Tied 1-1, Poulin blocked Reid Boucher shot and Alan Quine missed the Devils net. Still tied 1-1, Poulin stopped another Albany shot, this time from Paul Thompson. Shooting last was Mouillierat whose goal made the shootout score 2-1 and gave the Sound Tigers a 5-4 victory over Albany.

Defenseman Raman Hrabarenka tallied two goals for the Devils in the second frame and center Scott Timmins also notched a goal for Albany. Anders Lee found the back of the Albany net with a goal in the second frame, Mouillierat and Jesse Graham tallied assists. C.J. Stretch also notched a goal in the second period, his first goal as a Sound Tiger.

The Sound Tigers head to Albany tomorrow for a 5:05 PM game against the Devils. Bridgeport will be back at Webster Bank Arena on Sunday, Oct. 19 where they will take on the Springfield Falcons at 3 PM.
