BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators earned its first victory of the 2014-15 campaign with a 3-2 win over the visiting Portland Pirates. Goaltender Andrew Hammond made his second consecutive start in net for the B-Sens making 31 saves.

Buddy Robinson opened the scoring at 11:20 of the first period with a shorthanded goal. After winning a faceoff in the defensive zone, Jean-Gabriel Pageau alertly sent the puck up ice to a streaking Robinson who beat Pirates goaltender and former B-Sen, Mike McKenna. Binghamton added to its lead just under five minutes later when Shane Prince notched his first tally of the season off assists from Chris Wideman and Mike Sdao to give the home team a 2-0 advantage heading into first intermission.

Portland cut the B-Sens lead to 2-1 on a shorthanded goal by Jordan Szwarz 3:05 into the second period. Binghamton's captain, Aaron Johnson, netted his first goal in a B-Sens uniform at 16:14 of the frame to return the lead to two goals heading into the final intermission.

The Pirates managed to once again shrink Binghamton's lead to just one when Henrik Samuelsson tipped home a power-play shot from Dylan Reese at 6:01 of the third period, but Hammond stood tall the remainder of regulation to give Binghamton the first win of the year.

Binghamton's penalty-kill unit was tested often throughout the night but played well stopping eight of nine extra-man opportunities for Portland. McKenna stopped 37 of 40 shots faced in his first loss of the season.
