Huntsville Falls to Columbus in Overtime, 4-3

Louis Belisle gave the Columbus Cottonmouths a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Huntsville Havoc when he scored 1:55 into the extra period.

Columbus came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cottonmouths trailed 3-0 after a goal by Huntsville's Mike Henderson at 4:09 in the second period. Columbus knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Casey Brugman at 19:55 in the third period.

The Cottonmouths were led by Belisle, who grabbed one goal.

Columbus forced Havoc's goaltenders to work all game long, getting 43 shots and forcing 39 saves. Kevin Genoe made 18 stops and Jesse Kallechy made 21. The Cottonmouths excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Columbus' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cottonmouths finished with 35 penalty minutes. Columbus' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Columbus also got points from Brugman, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Columbus included Mathias Persson and Mike Switzer, who each put in one. In addition, Columbus received assists from Craig Simchuk, who had two and Robbie Holoien, Patrick McCadden, and Kyle Johnson, who contributed one each.

The Havoc stifled the Cottonmouths' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Huntsville's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 10 shots between them.

The Havoc were helped by Denis Semenov, who finished with one goal. Semenov scored 11:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Justin Cseter picked up the assist. Brad Schuler also scored for Huntsville. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Justin Basso, Brian Slugocki, and Alain Joanette, who each chipped in one.

Columbus took out Andrew Loewen after he had made seven saves and installed Shannon Szabados in goal, where he finished with 10 saves and the win. The Cottonmouths registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Huntsville ended with 33 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and three majors.
