South Carolina Stingrays News Release

Estero, FL - Forwards Cody Sylvester and Andrew Rowe each scored a goal and an assist and the South Carolina Stingrays (0-1-0-0) erased a two-goal deficit, but the Florida Everblades (1-0-0-0) prevailed 4-3 at Germain Arena Friday night.

The Everblades broke open the scoring on the power play 6:06 into the first period as forward Adam Brace tapped in a loose puck past Stingrays goaltender David LeNeveu (L, 18 saves on 22 shots). Forward Alex Lavoie made it a two-goal Everblades advantage deflecting a shot from defenseman Austin Levin past LeNeveu at 14:56.

The Stingrays jumped on the scoreboard at 7:13 of the middle frame when Sylvester caught a pass from defenseman Frankie Simonelli for a breakaway and beat Everblades netminder Daniel Altshuller (W, 25 saves on 28 shots) between the legs. Moments later, Rowe snapped a shot past the blocker of Altshuller from between the faceoff circles to tie the game at 9:55. The Everblades reclaimed the lead and the momentum at 13:36 thanks to a breakaway marker from Danick Gauthier.

Forward Mitch Wahl gave the Everblades their second two-goal cushion 15 seconds into the final period lifting a backhanded shot over an outstretched LeNeveu. Late in the contest and on a 5-on-3 power play, Stingrays defenseman Michal Cajkovsky made it 4-3 blasting a shot over the blocker of Altshuller from the point at 16:46. The Stingrays would pull LeNeveu for the extra skater, but could not bury the game-tying tally.

The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-5 on the power play while the Everblades went 1-for-4.

The Stingrays continue a season-opening three-game road trip tomorrow, Saturday, October 18, at 7:00 against the Everblades and close the journey on Friday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. against the Greenville Road Warriors at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.
