October 17, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB (October 17, 2014) - Heading into the home stretch of the 2014 North American Soccer League (NASL) Fall Season, every game that FC Edmonton (6W - 5D - 4L) will play between now and November 2 are crucial to the club's post-season hopes. It all starts again this weekend against Ottawa Fury FC (4W - 7D - 7L) at TD Place on Saturday, October 18 (1:00 p.m. MT KO).

"This is a very very important fixture for us," said FCE head coach Colin Miller. "We know on Saturday that Ottawa will be up for a great game. We have done very well away from home, but we need to start picking up three points instead of one when we're on the road."

The Eddies record against the Ottawa Fury has been average at best. In NASL play, they have lost 1-0 away from home in one of the last matches in the Spring Season after Tom Heinemann scored a last minute goal in his Ottawa debut, and the two sides have played to a 0-0 draw in the Eddies Fall Season home opener at Commonwealth Stadium.

Things are a little different with the Edmonton side since these two teams have last met. The Eddies are now undefeated at home in six matches and undefeated in total in five matches. The last of which was a 3-0 home victory against the Carolina RailHawks where Mallan Robert, Ritchie Jones and Tomi Ameobi found the back of the net. FCE "˜keeper John Smits earned his fifth shut out of the season.

The scene in Ottawa has also changed since the last time that the Eddies have come to visit. In their new home of TD Place, Ottawa have been on an upward trend the last few matches and even threatened for a post-season position. Their result, however, last weekend against the New York Cosmos was not good enough to keep them in the post-season race. A 2-1 injury time victory for the Cosmos caused heartbreak in the Canadian capital as Ottawa left New York with no points to show for their effort.

FC Edmonton are still in the mix when it comes to post-season spaces. With three matches left to play and only four points to make up, the Eddies still have a shot, providing they get a little help from their friends.

It will be bragging rights on the line in Ottawa this weekend to see which Canadian team will come out on top in the final match-up of the 2014 season.

On Saturday, October 18, FC Edmonton fans can catch the action at the Pint Downtown, FC Edmonton's official partner for away-match viewing parties. Bring out your #InnerEddie for chances to win your tab, and more!
