Springfield Falcons Sign Forward Andrew Cherniwchan to PTO

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons have signed forward Andrew Cherniwchan to a professional tryout contract, Director of Hockey Operations Bruce Landon announced today.

Cherniwchan, 25, split the 2013-14 season with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League and the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward skated in 30 games with the Bruins, earning nine points (4g, 5a), and 17 games with the Stingrays, picking up 16 points (8g, 8a). Cherniwchan has appeared in a career total of 72 ECHL contests, accumulating 44 points (22g, 22a) and racking up 130 PIM. The Hinton, Alberta native also spent four years at Northern Michigan University in the CCHA from 2008-12, amassing 84 points (35g, 49a) in 146 appearances.

Prior to his collegiate career, Cherniwchan spent two seasons with the Drayton Valley Thunder of the AJHL, picking up 70 points (42g, 28a) and 277 PIM in 103 contests, and one season with the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL, earning 21 points (12g, 9a) in 25 games.

Cherinwchan is expected to be available this weekend.
