FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB (October 16, 2014) - FC Edmonton are happy to share the news of the signing of goalkeeper Christian Kaiswatum. The terms of the contract, as per club policy, are not disclosed. Kaiswatum was signed to FC Edmonton before the roster freeze on October 6.

"With the younger players we have within FC Edmonton, we've had some of the best young goalkeepers in Edmonton," said FC Edmonton's goalkeeping coach Darren Woloshen. "Christian's development has just been such that it demanded that he become a part of the club. We're looking forward to having him in the mix."

The 6'1 goalkeeper from Edmonton, Alberta joins the FC Edmonton first team after being a part of the FCE Academy program. He will be the second Academy player to join the first team ranks in the 2014 season following the example of defender Marko Aleksic. In total, the 17 year-old Kaiswatum will be the sixth FCE Academy alumni on the team.

"It's a dream come true," said Kaiswatum. "Since joining the Academy, it was always my goal to make it to the first team. There are a lot of role models on this team that I look up too - Lance (Parker), John (Smits) and Tyson (Farago) are great players to learn from and I can take a lot from them."

Kaiswatum has had experience playing at the highest level in Canada as he has just returned from the latest U-18 Canadian Camp in France along with FCE Academy players Shamit Shome and Noah Cunningham. Kaiswatum made his debut in the Canadian system when he was 16 years-old and played in the U-17 FIFA World Cup UAE in 2013.

The signing of Kaiswatum follows the announcement of contract extensions for defender-turned-midfielder Lance Laing and striker Tomi Ameobi.
