Fuel Trade Pair of Rookie Defensemen
October 16, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Two days prior to the start of the 2014-15 ECHL regular season, the Indy Fuel traded rookie defensemen Zach Sternberg and Paul Swindlehurst to the Evansville IceMen and Missouri Mavericks, respectively, the team announced Wednesday. Both players were dealt in exchange for future considerations.
"Both Zach and Paul are young players with a lot of upside that played solid hockey for us throughout training camp," said Fuel Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman on Wednesday. "We wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors."
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Sternberg registered one assist and two penalty minutes in three preseason appearances for the Fuel this year following a four year career in the collegiate ranks with the Lake Superior State Lakers. Swindlehurst, a native of Blackrod, Great Britain, appeared in all three of the Fuel's preseason victories, earning a +2 rating and four penalty minutes.
Next up for the Fuel, it's the team's first-ever ECHL regular-season game with the opening faceoff set for 7:35 pm on Friday, October 17th at the Fairgrounds Coliseum vs. the Fort Wayne Komets. Tickets for Friday's inaugural game are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com, via the Fuel's official website, www.indyfuelhockey.com, and at the Fairgrounds Coliseum box office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Fans are encouraged to come early to enjoy the "Fuel Fan Fest" on the Indiana State Fairgrounds from 5-7 pm and all fans in attendance on Friday will receive a commemorative inaugural game rally towel.
Full coverage of Friday's game begins at 5:00 pm on television on WRTV6 in Indianapolis. Meanwhile, Fuel broadcaster Tony Brown will handle the play-by-play on the Fuel's flagship radio station, CBS Sports 1430, immediately following coverage of Roncalli Rebels High School Football.
In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud "AA" affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL. Season ticket packages for the Fuel's inaugural campaign are available now starting at just under $12 per game!
