Edmonton, AB- The Victoria Royals were unable to comeback from a three goal deficit in a 3-2 defeat to the defending Mastercard Memorial Cup Champion Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday night.

The Oil Kings scored the first three goals of the contest with Edgars Kulda tallying the game winning goal while shorthanded. Victoria's markers came from Austin Carroll and Joe Hicketts, with Carroll extending his WHL leading goal scoring streak to eight games. Brett Pollock scored the first two goals for Edmonton.

Royals' goaltender Evan Smith made 27 saves on 30 shots in his first career WHL start. Oil Kings' netminder Tristan Jarry turned away 20 of 22 shots he faced for the win.

Victoria was awarded six power plays on the night while Edmonton received five opportunities. Neither team was able to capitalize while skating with the extra attacker.

The Royals wrap up their road trip with contests on Friday, October 17th vs. the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Saturday October 18th against the Kootenay Ice. Puck drop for both games are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Victoria will then return home for a pair of games vs. the Vancouver Giants on Friday October 24th and Saturday October 25th. Friday's contest marks the unveiling of the Royals third jersey, while Saturday's game is the annual Pink in the Rink Night at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
