OMAHA LANCERS @ DES MOINES BUCCANEERS - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10TH

RECAP (4-0 L)

The eventual game winner by Tanner Karty came from below the goal line. After no scoring in the first period, Karty picked up the loose puck below the goal line and fired it to the front of the net. The centering feed caromed off a body in front and by goaltender Hayden Hawkey for the 1-0 lead. Brennan Sanford and Corey Schueneman both picked up assists on the Karty goal. Less than four minutes later, another bounce in front of the net put the Lancers down by a pair of goals. Joe Widmar fed Patrik Koch with a pass at the left point. Koch moved to the left wing hash marks and sent the puck into traffic in front of the crease. The slap pass went off the skates of Ara Nazarian and by Hawkey for the 2-0 Buccaneer ad- vantage. Koch had the first assist while Joe Widmar added the second. In the third period a quick goal made it a three goal lead for the Bucca- neers. Des Moines' Ryan Dmowski was taken down by the net and drew a delayed penalty call. As the Buccaneers got the extra attacker on the ice, Dmowski went back to the front of the net and deflected a shot from the blue line off the crossbar and into the net for a 3-0 lead. The goal came just 1:14 into the third period and Nicky Wolff along with Patrik Koch were awarded assists. Tanner Karty added his second goal of the night with 9:08 remaining in regulation. Karty picked up a pass from Alec Rauhauser and moved into the offensive zone on the left side. Playing the defensive screen, Karty snapped the puck low and beat Hayden Hawkey for his second of the evening and the 4-0 lead for Des Moines. Hayden Hawkey stopped 32 of 36 shots he faced in the 4-0 loss. The teams combined for 17 total penalties and 80 minutes. Omaha went 6-6 killing penalties on the night.

OMAHA LANCERS @ CEDAR RAPIDS ROUGHRIDERS - SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11TH

Jiri Fronk took a checking from behind minor penalty as he took out Omaha's Nick Rivera at 8:55 of the first period. While the Lancers were trying to set up the man advantage the puck came out of the zone and Hayden Hawkey denied the first chance with a great right leg pad save. Hawkey tried to jump on the puck but it redirected right to the stick of Andrew Gaus who fired it right into an open net for a 1-0 lead and the league leading third short- handed goal of the year for the RoughRiders. The goal came at 9:26 of the opening period and was unassisted. Hayden Hawkey was stellar in the final minutes of the first period. As Michael Bigelbach was in the penalty box for a tripping minor, Hawkey denied three point blank opportunities and kept the RoughRiders off the scoreboard late in the period with a series of stops. In the second period, each team exchanged penalties and as Zach Court sat in the penalty box for Cedar Rapids, the Lancers worked the puck up top inside the offensive zone. Shane Gersich sat at the top of the right wing and let a one-timer go that beat goaltender Ben Blacker over the shoulder to even the score up at a goal apiece. It was Gersich's second goal of the year with assists from Brendan Smith and Steven Spinner. In the final period of play, Shane Gersich struck again for the second time of the game and the eventual game winner. From the right wing circle, Gersich fired a shot from an off angle on net. The original save was made by goaltender Ben Blacker however the puck wasn't fully covered. Gerish stormed to the front of the net and jammed the puck in for his third of the season to give the Lancers a 2-1 lead with 7:50 remaining in the game. Anthony Angello picked up the only assist. Hayden Hawkey stopped 24 of 25 shots on net and kept Cedar Rapids off the scoreboard while they were on the power-play.

DES MOINES BUCCANEERS @ OMAHA LANCERS - TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14TH

Des Moines took the lead at 6:59 into the opening period on a deflection in front of goaltender Hayden Hawkey. Alec Rauhauser took the puck at the left point and saw Patrick Grasso breaking to the net uncovered. Rauhauser let a slap pass go and Grasso deflected it top shelf for his first of the season and a 1-0 lead for the Buccaneers. The lone assist went to Rauhauser. An interception inside their offensive zone provided Des Moines with the chance to take a 2-0 lead and they cashed in. Ryan Dmowski had the puck land right onto his stick at the top of the offensive zone cir- cles. Dmowski walked it in and beat Hayden Hawkey all alone in front of the net with a wrist shot for his third goal on the year at 12:41 of the first peri- od and a 2-0 advantage. The goal was unassisted. In the second period of play, the Buccaneers tacked on three more goals. One came on a 5-on-3 power-play for Des Moines. Georgy Gorodetsky capitalized while up two skaters and put the Buccaneers ahead 3-0 with the team's fifth power-play goal of the season at 10:39 of the middle period. As the second penalty of that sequence came to an end Alec Rauhauser let a low shot go from the left point that found a way through traffic and by goaltender Hayden Hawkey at 12:29 of the second period to pull the Buccaneers out to a 4-0 lead. Assists on the Rauhauser tally were credited to Nikita Pavlychev and Chandler Lindstrand. Joe Widmar provided the fifth goal for Des Moines in the first two periods of play. From the right wing circle, Widmar cut through the low slot and redirected the Alec Rauhauser shot from the blueline by Hayden Hawkey with 2:08 left in the second period for a 5-0 lead to Des Moines. The Lancers answered back and got on the scoreboard with 24 sec- onds left in the second period. Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson and Bradley Johnson combined to set up Shane Gersich with his fourth goal on the season as he wristed the puck by Ryan Ruck to pull the Lancers within four goals as the period came to an end. To start the third period, Hayden Hawkey was replaced by Kris Oldham in net for Omaha. It only took 6:06 for the Lancers to strike in the final period of regulation. Anthony Angello collected a loose puck in front of the crease and fired it by Ruck for his second goal since scoring on opening night with assists from Louie Rowe and Jimmy Schuldt making it a 5-2 contest. Gersich picked up his second two goal game in a row, this time on the power-play. At 9:27 of the third period, the Des Moines defense collapsed and Steven Spinner picked up the puck along the wall for a two-on-none rush with Gersich. Spinner gave it to Gersich in the right wing circle and he ripped it through the legs of Ryan Ruck for his second of the night, fourth in two games, and fifth on the year pulling Omaha within a pair of goals.
