Anaheim Announces Roster Moves

Norfolk Admirals News Release

ANAHEIM, Ca. - The Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League (NHL) announced today that center Chris Wagner and goaltender Jason LaBarbera have been recalled from their primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Norfolk Admirals. Anaheim also announced that goaltender John Gibson has been assigned to Norfolk.

Wagner, 23, is in the third professional season of his career, all with Norfolk in the AHL. Since turning pro in 2012, the Wellesley, Massachusetts native skated in 148 games and every contest of the 2013-14 regular and post season for the Admirals. After two seasons of experience at Colgate University, Wagner stands at 53 career points off 26 goals and 27 assists. The 6-foot, 200-pound center departs Hampton Roads on a two-game goal streak to begin the season, which includes a season-opening hat trick. Two of those markers came while a man down against Hershey last Saturday, making Wagner one of only two players in AHL Admirals' history to strike for a pair of shorthanded goals in a single game. Through the first weekend, Wagner is tied for the league lead in goals.

Gibson, 21, returns to Norfolk for the first time since spending almost an entire season with the Admirals in 2013-14. Drafted 39th overall by the Ducks in 2011, Gibson developed in 45 games for Norfolk last season, winning 21 games, losing 17, and winning Goalie of the Month for October. He received the call from Anaheim for the final three contests of the Ducks' regular schedule. The Pittsburgh native won all three to jump start his NHL career and earned a shutout in his debut, becoming the youngest goaltender to do so since Daren Puppa in 1985.

He stood in net for four Stanley Cup Playoff games, the first of which was also a shutout. Gibson is the only netminder in NHL history to record a shutout in his NHL playoff debut. Last week, he started the season opener for Anaheim versus Pittsburgh.

LaBarbera, 34, heads back to a NHL club for the 11th time in his 15th season as a professional. His tour includes time with the New York Rangers, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Phoenix, Edmonton and Anaheim for a combined 182 games of NHL experience. The Rangers' third-round draft pick in 1998 signed on with the Ducks over the summer following a season that started in the Edmonton organization and ended in Chicago's system with Rockford of the AHL. The veteran has 60 career wins in the NHL to his name and played exclusively at that level from 2007 to 2013. He logged 282 games of AHL competition as well.

This weekend, Norfolk hosts the Manchester Monarchs who they eliminated from the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs last May. Friday's game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Scope while Saturday's matchup begins at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are available through the Scope Box Office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com, or charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000.
