Oshawa Generals News Release

The Oshawa Generals faced the Ottawa 67's today in a Thanksgiving Monday matchup. Today marked the third time that the Generals and 67's have met this season, and the second time that the Generals have come out victorious. The Generals remain undefeated on home ice, thanks to their 7-1 win over the 67's today.

The Generals dominated this game from start to finish, never wavering in their ability to play strong. From the first puck drop of the game, it was clear that the Generals were looking for redemption from their loss against the 67's just yesterday. In fact, Josh Sterk scored the first goal of the game less than a minute into the first period. The goal was assisted by Michael Dal Colle and Anthony Cirelli. The Generals were fired up and continued the offensive pressure through the whole period. Second goal of the game came from Tobias Lindberg, who put it past 67's goaltender, Leo Lazarev with just under six minutes remaining in the first period. The goals didn't stop there however, as Canucks prospect, Cole Cassels put one past Lazarev to give the Generals a 3-0 advantage. By the end of the first period, the Generals were up 14-4 over the 67's in shots on goal.

Early in the second, Templeton was awarded an interference penalty, and the Generals went to work on the power play. Josh Sterk scored his second goal of the night, this time assisted by Stephen Desrocher. The Generals kept the intensity on the 67's the entire game and were demonstrating their dominance even when the 67's were on their power play. The 67's found their first and only goal of the game with 8:42 remaining in the second period thanks to number 96, Dante Salituro.

This goal wouldn't stop the Generals however, and Bradley Latour quickly responded with a goal assisted by Cassels and Busch. The Generals were now leading the 67's 5-1. Nearing the end of the second period, Taylor Davis made his way to the penalty box on an interference call and the Generals had an amazing power play performance. No goals were scored, but it was definitely something special to watch. Wrapping up the second period, with less than a minute to go, Michael Dal Colle scored to continue the Generals domination and give the team a 6-1 lead. The assists were from Will Petschenig and Stephen Templeton (his first point in the OHL).

Despite maintaining an impressive lead over the 67's for a good portion of the game, the Generals didn't quit in the third period. They kept the pressure strong and things started to heat up. Josh Sterk and Sam Studnicka dropped the gloves, resulting in penalties for both players. Studnicka received a five minute penalty for fighting while Sterk was removed from the game with two minutes for instigating, five minutes for fighting, and a 10 minute game misconduct. A few more penalties were awarded to each side including two minutes for Petschenig for cross checking, and two minutes for hooking for the 67's Jacob Middelton.

To keep things exciting, Anthony Cirelli scored the seventh goal of the game and the first of his OHL career, assisted by Chris Carlisle and Stephen Desrocher. Again, more penalties were given out including Graham for slashing, Smith for interference, Carlisle for check to the head, and Henley for tripping. Ultimately, the Generals pulled out a huge win over the 67's, with a final score of 7-1. Redemption was certainly found here today.

Kenny Appleby once again put up a tremendous effort between the posts and continues to show why he is the top goalie in the league. The Generals outshot the 67's 51-19 today, further demonstrating the outstanding job they did today. This game marks a 5-0-0 record on home ice this season and we look forward to seeing how the rest of the season plays out at home. Third star tonight went to Anthony Cirelli, second star was given to Michael Dal Colle, and first star was awarded to Josh Sterk. Today's game also puts the Oshawa Generals back in first place in the Eastern Conference.
