Portland Thunder News Release

Portland, Ore. - The Portland Thunder added three players to the team late Friday, as they were assigned kicker Brady Beeson, defensive back Matt Pierce, and linebacker Remond Willis.

"We're excited to bring these talented players to Portland," said Thunder Head Coach Mike Hohensee. "Although Matt and Remond don't have Arena experience, they have demonstrated the type of skills that should translate well to our game. Brady's a talented kicker with indoor experience who should make the competition at his position very interesting."

Beeson (6-1, 215), who attended the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), spent the last two years kicking with the IFL's Tri-Cities Fever. In his first game with the Fever, he hit four of five field goal attempts, making from 50,45, 22, and 24 yards. At St. Thomas, Beeson set three school records, including points scored as a kicker (79).

Pierce (5-11, 190), was a four-year starter at Valdosta State University, where he won a Division II National Championship with the Blazers. He earned honorable mention All-American honors after a senior season where he tallied 48 tackles, four interceptions, and 11 passes broken up. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans out of college in 2013 and comes to the Thunder by way of the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Willis (6-2, 250) comes to the Thunder by way of the CFL, having spent time with the Calgary Stampeders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Saskatchewan Roughriders. During his CFL career, he tallied 22 tackles and a sack. Prior to the CFL, Willis led the Tennessee State Tigers with 84 tackles as a junior and collected another 55 as a senior. He transferred to the Tigers in 2007 after two years at the University of Illinois, where he was named a Freshman All-American in 2005.
