(WICHITA, KS) - Chris Peacock joined a revamped Wichita Wingnuts' bullpen for the stretch run in 2014 and capped off the campaign with a second independent league championship in the span of one month. After first playing an important role for the United League champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, he was impressive in relief for the title-winning Wingnuts. The right-handed pitcher has added one more reason for celebration, as the Pittsburgh Pirates have purchased his contract.
In Wichita, the 25-year old made six regular season appearances, all lasting one inning, and gave up six runs, five earned, on nine hits. In the playoffs, Peacock allowed one run in 3.1 innings on the hill, while striking out a pair.
The recently completed season was the third for the Mobile, Alabama native after playing collegiately at the University of Mobile. His independent league journey has taken him from the Pecos League to the North American Baseball League, back to the Pecos League, to the United League, and finally the American Association. He was the set-up man for Rio Grande at the outset of 2014 and went 5-2 with an ERA of 2.27 in 35.2 innings. The 6'4 right-hander closed out three games.
Peacock becomes the fourth player the Wingnuts have sold to a Major League organization in 2014 and the 23rd all-time. Below is the complete list of players who have had their contracts purchased from Wichita.
