Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (1-1-0-0), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, prevailed by a 2-1 score over the Stockton Thunder (0-2-0-0) in preseason action in front of a crowd of 1,876 on Sunday at Stockton Arena.
The Reign surrendered an early goal in the first period, as Tyler Maxwell scored just 15 seconds into the match with a wrist shot to beat Matt Zenzola. Ontario rebounded midway through the frame, as Tristan King collected a power-play goal at 9:37 following a Stockton bench minor penalty for delay of game. Rocco Carzo and Ralfs Freibergs each received credit for an assist on King's tally.
The Reign pulled ahead in the second period, as Carzo tipped in Freibergs' point shot past Shane Owen while on the power-play to make it 2-1 at 0:41, with Judd Blackwater picking up the secondary assist.
In the third, Zenzola held the Thunder at bay, denying a flurry of late chances as time expired.
Zenzola picked up the win for Ontario with 23 saves; Owen took the loss for Stockton with 28 saves.
