Kamloops Blazers News Release

The Everett Silvertips (5-0-2-0) got 28 saves from goaltender Austin Lotz as they beat the Kamloops Blazers (6-3-1-0) 5-1 on Saturday night.

The Blazers opened the scoring on the power play in the first period. Brady Gaudet's point shot beat goaltender Austin Lotz high on the glove side for a 1-0 Blazers lead.

The Silvertips came right back and tied it up. Defenseman Kevin Davis faked a shot, before sliding a shot five-hole behind goaltender Bolton Pouliot to make it 1-1.

The 'Tips took the lead with 3:36 to play in the period on a power play. Ivan Nikolishin skated off the half wall and fired a wrist shot past Pouliot on the glove side. The 'Tips took the 2-1 lead into the second period.

There was no scoring and barely any whistles in a fast paced second period. The period took only 26 minutes to play as the Blazers continued to trail 2-1 headed into the third period.

Cole MacDonald gave the 'Tips a two goal lead 59 seconds into the third period. His long point shot found its way in the net to make it 3-1 for the 'Tips.

The Blazers pushed hard after the goal and put some great shifts together. Jesse Zaharichuk was stoned twice point blank by goaltender Austin Lotz.

Mike Winther had a breakaway, but fired wide as the Blazers were not able to get a goal.

The Silvertips scored two late goals to round out the scoring as Kohl Bauml finished a nice tic-tac-toe play and Carson Stadnyk scored with three seconds left to make it a 5-1 final.

The Blazers outshot the Silvertips 29-25. Both teams finished 1-for-3 on the power play.

The Blazers next home game goes Wednesday, October 15 when they host the Kelowna Rockets.
