Albany Devils News Release

GLENS FALLS, NY - In his first game as an Albany Devil, Paul Thompson scored four goals, tying a franchise record and helping the Devils to a 5-1 victory against the Adirondack Flames. The win came Saturday at Glens Falls Civic Center.

Thompson, who signed with Albany this offseason, had the team's first four-goal game since Bobby Butler accomplished the feat on Dec. 12, 2012 against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Thompson also scored the Devils first hat trick since Mike Sislo potted three on Nov. 8, 2013 also against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Thompson, Sislo and Butler were all teammates at UNH (Hockey East).

The newcomer opened the scoring at 7:21 of the first period on a play setup by Joe Whitney on a two-on-one. After the period break, Thompson redirected a Brandon Burlon's point shot for a power-play goal at 1:11.

After Adirondack's Brett Kulak made the score 2-1, Thompson completed the hat trick with the help of Stefan Matteau at 10:06 of the third. Thompson added his fourth moments later at 13:53.

Matteau capped the scoring at 15:47.

Between the pipes, Keith Kinkaid made 34 saves on 35 shots for his 63rd career victory. His night included 13 stops in the first, 12 in the second and nine in the third.

Game Notes

- Thompson, who signed with Albany on Aug. 6, netted his 40th, 41st, 42nd and 43rd career goals. In 201 AHL games, he has 76 points. The winger was on the ice playing for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton when Butler scored four goals for Albany on Dec. 12, 2012.

- Kinkaid is now two wins shy of tying Jeff Frazee's franchise wins record. Frazee registered 65 wins between 2007-13.

- Whitney, who has led the team in scoring the previous three seasons, had three assists. He is the franchise's all-time leading scorer with 151 points.

- The win was the Devils first opening-night victory in franchise history. They entered the night 0-6-1-1.

- The Flames were playing in their inaugural game at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The team - formerly the Heat - relocated to upstate New York from Abbotsford, BC during the offseason.
