Bloomington Thunder News Release

Youngstown, OH - An extra session wasn't enough for the Bloomington Thunder and the Youngstown Phantoms to decide a winner in their Saturday afternoon matinee. They needed a shootout to decide the game and also needed extra rounds in the shootout before the Phantoms took the 3-2 win in their home opener.

The Thunder surrendered two power play goals in the game with the first one coming from Bryan Lemos (Providence College) at 9:51 of the first period and the second from Kyle Connor (Michigan University) at 16:19 of the second. Connor recorded his 50th career goal on the one timer feed from Trey Bradley (Colorado College).

Then the Thunder picked up a late second period goal to turn the tide in the game. Ryan Galt (University of Nebraska-Omaha) picked up his third goal in two games at 19:09 of the second. Patrick Curry would later tie the game with a goal that rang off the post and then off the back of goaltender Collin DeAugustine at 4:34 of the third.

No score in overtime meant the game needed to settled in the shootout. The Thunder tallied two in the skills competition but were matched by the Phantoms until the seventh round when Kiefer Sherwood (University of Miami-Ohio) picked up the final goal to seal the game for Youngstown.

David Jacobson finished the night with the shootout loss and 28 saves while DeAugustine finished with 25 saves and the win. The Thunder drop to 3-1-1 on the season, while the Phantoms improve above .500 with a 3-2-0.

Next Home Game: Catch the Thunder when they return home from their road stand on October 18th against the Omaha Lancers for Pink the Rink Night. The team will wear specialty jerseys and proceeds for the night will benefit the Susan G. Komen foundation. Stick around after the game for a post game jersey auction where you can bid on your favorite player's jersey. For tickets, call the Thunder office at (309) 434-2980.
