October 11, 2014 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Red Deer Rebels News Release
The Rebels took to home ice for the first time since Red Deer was named the host city for the 2016 Mastercard Memorial Cup. The team also suited up in their brand new third jerseys for the first time.
FIRST PERIOD
After dominating the first half of the opening period, the Tigers opened the scoring at the 11:50 mark. Kyle Becker fired one through a screen and beat Rylan Toth for his second goal of the year. Tevor Cox and Cole Sanford assisted on the 1-0 Tigers goal.
Becker struck again with a powerplay goal to give Medicine Hat a 2-0 lead at 15:53; Sanford and Steven Owre earned the assists.
SECOND PERIOD
The Rebels were much improved in the middle period and were eventually rewarded with their first goal. Brett Cote levelled Chad Butcher with a huge hit in the Tigers zone. That led to Presten Kopeck feeding Nick Charif his first goal of the season. Charif beat Marek Langhamer to make it a 2-1 game at the 16:03 mark. Adam Musil also picked up an assist on the goal.
THIRD PERIOD
After making a great play to bust up a 2-on-1, Rebels defenceman Haydn Fleury had a shot deflect off of him and into the Rebels net. Tommy Vanelli got credit for the 3-1 Tigers goal at 13:44.
Chad Butcher got in behind the Rebels defense and put home his 5th of the season to put this one to bed. Becker and Markus Eisenschmid assisted on the Tigers 4-1 goal at 18:33. Alex Mowbray added a powerplay goal at 19:32 for a 5-1 final score.
