Hawks Score for Good Cause

October 10, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Waterloo Black Hawks goals early in 2014/15 have done more than help the team to a solid start; with the support of Fahr Beverage, the early season scoring has begun building what will hopefully be a large donation to an organization helping the families of fallen or severely wounded servicemen and women.

For each Waterloo goal scored at Young Arena during the 2014/15 season, Fahr Beverage, the local distributor of Budweiser products, will contribute $25 to Folds of Honor. In combination with donations from Black Hawks fans, over $5,000 was contributed to the cause last season as the result of 123 home goals. Since 2007, Folds of Honor has provided thousands of scholarships and other educational assistance to those who have lost a parent or spouse while serving in the armed forces post-9/11.

"It wouldn't be possible to enjoy fun things like hockey games without the sacrifice of those who have served in all branches of our military. The sacrifices extend to the families of those men and women, and we are proud to work with Fahr Beverage to draw attention to helping those who have given the most," said Black Hawks Vice President Mike Falk.

Individual Black Hawks fans can help the effort by pledging any amount per home goal. With a 25 cent per goal contribution, over $30 would be raised by the end of the season. Waterloo has scored 5 home goals so far in 2014/15. Sign up to make a pledge or contribution of any type at the Express Employment Professionals Fan Service Table during Black Hawks home games at Young Arena.
