DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers beef up their defense with the signing of linebacker Javicz Jones and defensive back Jonathan Dandridge, Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Joe Brannen announced today.
Jones (6-0, 230, Mary Hardin Baylor) enters his second season in the Indoor Football League (IFL) and his first with the Iowa Barnstormers. Jones spent his rookie season with the Texas Revolution where he collected 91.5 total tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 2 pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries. In addition, he completed the 2014 season ranked second in the IFL in total tackles.
In 2013, Jones attended Rookie Mini Camp with the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL). Prior to his professional football debut, the linebacker played Division III football at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. During his collegiate career, he amassed 467 total tackles, 47 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, and eleven interceptions. In addition to setting single season and career records, Jones earned several honors including a three time Division III All-American, two time American Southwest Defensive Player of the Year, and National Defensive Player of the Year by D3football.com.
Dandridge (5-11, 194, Jackson State) played his rookie season in the IFL with the Bemidji Axemen. Appearing in five games for the Axemen, he tallied 19.5 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and two pass breakups. Dandridge played collegiately for the Jackson State Tigers after appearing in twelve games as a freshman for the University of Minnesota.
The Iowa Barnstormers 2014 Open Tryout Camp is scheduled for November 1, 2014 in Pella, Iowa. Attendees must be 18 years of age or older, non-college eligible, and interested in playing professional indoor football.
