Penguins Assign Hartzell to Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned goaltender Eric Hartzell from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), it was announced today.

The 25-year old second-year pro went 10-8-1 last year for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with a 2.48 goals against average, a .901 save percentage, three shutouts and was named AHL Goaltender of the Month for January. In 14 appearances with Wheeling, Hartzell posted a record of 8-5-1 with a 3.13 GAA, a .900 save percentage and one shutout.

Hartzell was named USA Hockey College Player of the Year and a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2013 after posting a 30-7-5 record and helping Quinnipiac University reach the school's first-ever Frozen Four appearance and NCAA championship.

The Penguins open their 2014-15 regular season with a pair of home games on Saturday night, Oct. 11, against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and Sunday afternoon, Oct. 12, against the Manchester Monarchs.
