IceCaps Sign Three Players to PTOs

The St. John's IceCaps, American Hockey League affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets, announced today they have signed forwards Brandon MacLean, Ben Walker and Nicolas Blanchard to professional tryout contracts.

MacLean, 27, spent last season primarily with the Florida Everblades (ECHL), leading his team in scoring with 63 points (22G, 41A) in 60 games with 37 penalty minutes and a +19 rating. MacLean joined the IceCaps for the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs but did not dress in a game.

Walker, 21, went undrafted out of Victoria (WHL) but was invited to the Jets' development camp during the summer. In 71 games with Victoria last season, Walker finished third in team scoring with 54 points (24G, 30A) while recording 61 penalty minutes and a +17 rating.

Blanchard, 27, is an eight-year AHL veteran who has played in 468 career games between the Albany River Rats and Charlotte Checkers, recording 130 points (61G, 69A) and 814 penalty minutes. The native of Granby, QC has also played in nine NHL contests, all in 2012-13, with the Carolina Hurricanes. Blanchard served as assistant captain for the Checkers for the past three seasons.

The IceCaps will begin the 2014-15 season Friday night when they travel to Providence to take on the Bruins at the Dunkin Donuts Center (8:35 p.m. NT).
