Breton collects first preseason goal in breast cancer awareness finale

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Rhett Bly's second straight game-winning goal snapped a third period tie and Mac Carruth made 31 saves to help the Indy Fuel defeat the Alaska Aces, 3-1 in a two-game preseason finale at Sullivan Arena on Wednesday.

Indy claimed both games in the preseason series, a promotion dedicated to fundraising for breast cancer treatment, while Justin Breton scored the lone Aces goal in the second period. The Fuel followed by scoring three unanswered goals.

Niklas Lundstrom, making his Aces preseason debut, stopped 26 shots.

Breton's goal, a backhander on a breakaway with 13:08 left in the second period, was set by Brad Richard's block inside the Aces blueline and subsequent feed through the middle of the ice, behind the Indy d efense.

Mike Duco's first preseason goal leveled the game, 1-1 just 1:54 later when he scored off the rush, from the right circle with a wrist shot that seared through traffic. Bly jumped on an errant clearing pass at 5:13 of the third period and buried another wrister from the right circle to give Indy their first lead of the game.

Mathieu Brisebois then hammered a power play goal from the point at 6:50 for a 3-1 lead, set up by Duco's feed from the right corner.

NOTES: Scratches for the game included Brendan Connolly, Niklas Lundstrom, Mike Slowikowski, Brad Cole and Jeff Barney ... the Aces were limited to five healthy defensemen on the roster, available for the game and dressed 13 forwards ... Indy held the Aces to no power plays for the game ... Richard, making his preseason debut after returning from the American Hockey League, led the Aces with four shots on goal.

Alaska's training camp continues on Thursday at Ben Boeke Ice Arena (10:00 a.m. and open to the public). Opening Night is Friday, Oct. 17 at Sullivan Arena, a 7:15 p.m. (GCI/KFQD) face-off against the Ontario Reign.
