Iowa Wild Names Team Captains

Des Moines, IA - Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill announced on Wednesday the American Hockey League (AHL) club has named the team captains for the 2014-15 season. Veteran forward Stephane Veilleux has been named Team Captain. Defenseman Justin Falk and forward Brett Sutter were both named Alternate Captains.

Veilleux is a 14-year veteran with over 800 combined games of NHL and AHL experience. He has been in the Minnesota Wild organization for 11 seasons. Last season, he played in 34 games for Iowa, scoring five times and totaling 14 assists. He also suited up in 34 games for Minnesota, scoring three goals and accumulating 21 penalty minutes. In all, the 32-year old has played in 494 NHL games, scoring 49 times and adding 55 assists for 104 points. He has also played in 336 AHL games with 68 goals and 100 assists for 168 points. Veilleux was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild (#93 overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Falk, originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft (#110 overall), will wear the "A" for Iowa this season. He has played in 129 NHL games, mostly for Minnesota, scoring one goal and adding 16 assists for 17 points. The Manitoba native also has 189 games of AHL experience, scoring six goals and totaling 26 points. Last season, the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder played in 21 games for the NHL's New York Rangers, setting up two goals.

Veteran forward Brett Sutter will also wear an "A". He played in 62 games for the Charlotte Checkers last season, scoring 15 times and setting up 29 others for a total of 44 points. He also played in 17 NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes. He posted one goal and one assist for two points with Carolina. Overall, the Viking, AB native has played in 467 AHL games, scoring 79 goals and adding 122 assists for 201 points. He has also played in 54 career NHL games with Carolina and Calgary, scoring two goals and amassing seven points. Sutter was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round (#179 overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He is the son of current L.A. Kings Head Coach Daryl Sutter, who is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion.

Iowa begins its second season in the American Hockey League with a two-game road trip in Texas. The team plays at 7:30 p.m. in San Antonio on Friday, Oct. 10. The Wild stops in Cedar Park, TX to face the defending Calder Cup Champion Texas Stars on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. Iowa hosts Opening Weekend on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct 18 at 7 p.m. against the Milwaukee Admirals. The first 5,000 fans to Friday's game will receive a 2014-15 Magnetic Schedule, compliments of Hicklin Garage Doors. Fans may also enjoy a $2 Beer Night, presented by 100.3 The Bus. On Saturday, the team celebrates Local Heroes Night and the first 5,000 fans will be handed an Iowa Wild 2014-15 poster schedule.

The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center and begins on the road Oct. 10 in San Antonio. Fans may purchase seats to the Home Opener on Friday, Oct. 17 against the Milwaukee Admirals at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
