Lowell Spinners News Release

LOWELL, MASS. - The Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, announced the return of the team's annual Hot Stove Dinner, to be highlighted by 2004 World Series Champion Trot Nixon, Saturday, January 17 at the UMass-Lowell Inn & Conference Center.

The dinner returned last winter after a multi-year hiatus, reformatted to honor our local baseball stars while serving as the team's keynote fundraiser for Lowell Spinners Charities, the team's 501c3 charitable fund.

"We look forward to warming up the baseball season with this Hot Stove event for the great baseball fans in the region," said Spinners President and General Manager Tim Bawmann. "Trot Nixon's grit and talent made him a fan favorite across Red Sox Nation. We are thrilled to have him highlight this fundraising event and bring him back to the community."

In addition to Nixon, the dinner will feature visits from other local baseball alumni, both Spinners alumnus and otherwise. The team will present the Dick Berardino Alumni Award, given annually to a Spinners alumnus, currently in the Major Leagues, that best represents the qualities of productivity, work-ethic and coach-ability, the Peter Gammons Media Award and the Greg Montalbano Award.

In addition, awards will be presented at the event for *The Lowell Sun *High School Baseball and Softball Players of the Year, the Nashua Silver Knights Player of the Year and the Jr. Spinners Awards, an award created to honor a pair of standout players in the Spinners' partnership Elite Baseball program.

"This event is meant to be a celebration of baseball," said Bawmann. "From the youth level all the way up to our Major League Alumni Award winner, this event encompasses both the talent and the passion of baseball in the region."

The dinner will be hosted at the UMass-Lowell Inn & Conference Center in downtown Lowell. In addition to the dinner and awards presentation, rather than speeches, the event will be formatted as a "question and answer" session. There will also be an autograph session with all of our guests, auctions and a Chinese raffle. Doors for the event will open at 5pm with autographs and dinner to precede the program.

Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.LowellSpinners.com and by phone at (978) 459-1702. Tickets are $75, which includes dinner, autographs, a silent and live auction, awards presentation and Q&A sessions with the guests. More guests and award winners will be announced in the coming weeks.
