Giants Win Big over Cougars
October 5, 2014 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Vancouver Giants News Release
Carter Popoff had two goals while Ryely McKinstry picked up a Gordie Howe hat-trick including his first WHL goal as the Vancouver Giants won big, downing the Prince George Cougars 6-1 on Sunday night at the Pacific Coliseum. Jackson Houck, Thomas Foster and Joel Hamilton scored as well while Payton Lee made 19 saves in the victory.
The Cougars opened the scoring on a power play early in the first when Jari Erricson knocked home a rebound to put the visitors ahead, but Popoff tied the game for Vancouver with 1:09 left in the frame, netting his fifth of the season on the power play. The Giants outscored Prince George 3-0 in the second period to take control of the game. Popoff found the net again at even strength before Jackson Houck scored the IBA-West Insurance Brokers Goal of the Game, deflecting a Dmitry Osipov point shot past Cougars goalie Ty Edmonds. Foster added a shorthanded goal in the final minute of the second while Hamilton and McKinstry added to the lead with goals in the third period.
The Giants will now head out on the road for back-to-back games in Prince George on Friday and Saturday.
Vancouver's next home game will be on October 17th when Don Hay and the Kamloops Blazers visit the Pacific Coliseum. For tickets, call 604-4-GIANTS or visit VancouverGiants.com.
