FC Edmonton News Release

EDMONTON, AB (October 2, 2014) - FC Edmonton (5W - 4D - 4L) will be facing a familiar foe in the Tampa Bay Rowdies (5W - 1D - 5L) on Saturday, October 4 (5:30 p.m. MT KO) in the Eddies hunt for a postseason spot in the North American Soccer League (NASL). FC Edmonton sit six points back of a final spot in The Championship postseason and collecting three points in Tampa would certainly help out their cause.

"It is a very importantly fixture for us against Tampa," said the Eddies head coach Colin Miller. "We played them not too long ago, so there won't be any big surprises. The team knows what's a stake and the lads should have a bit of confidence playing well in the second half on Sunday against the Cosmos. Everyone knows what has to be done this week, so we are all looking forward to a good match."

The Eddies split the points last weekend against the New York Cosmos at Clarke Stadium to remain undefeated at home in the last five matches. A corner kick for the Cosmos in the 50th minute found the head of Daniel Szetela who snuck it past Lance Parker on the far post to give New York the 1-0 lead early in the second half. The Eddies would come alive in the 61st minute when a pass from Horace James inside the Cosmos' penalty area would find Tomi Ameobi who would make no mistake to corral the ball and feather it past Cosmo "˜keeper Jimmy Maurer to even the score at one a piece.

The Tampa Bay Rowdies would have played Fort Lauderdale Strikers last weekend in a Florida derby, but the match was rained out and postponed until Wednesday, October 8 forcing the Rowdies to play there matches in the upcoming seven days.

These two teams faced off not too long ago in Edmonton. It was a rather slow start to the match as both sides traded possession for the majority of the first half with a few scattered scoring chances. In the 63rd minute, the saga of Lance Laing continued. A flick off the boot of midfielder Neil Hlavaty sent Laing breaking up the middle of the pitch. He would beat two defenders in a foot race and make no mistake to tuck it past Matt Pickens. With the tally, Laing becomes tied with Daryl Fordyce for the team lead in goals with six and continues his amazing Fall Season run with five goals in 12 games played in the Fall campaign thus far and earned the Eddies a 1-0 victory.
