Prince George Cougars News Release
Prince George, B.C. - The George Cougars are pleased to announce that 16-year-old defenceman Josh Anderson (Duncan, B.C.) will represent Canada (Team White) at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Championships which will take place in Sarnia and Lambton Ontario from November 2nd through November 8th.
Anderson was drafted third overall by the Prince George Cougars in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. So far this season, Anderson has dressed in two games for the Cougars and has registered four penalty minutes and an even plus-minus rating.
"It's a spectacular feeling being chosen to represent my country at this tournament," said Anderson after hearing the news. "I'm looking forward to competing against the top talent in the world, and I am confident that this tournament will help me become a better WHL player when I come back to Prince George."
"We are thrilled that Josh was picked as one of the top 18 defencemen in Canada for his age group," said Prince George Cougars General Manager, Todd Harkins. "This selection shows Josh's commitment to putting in the time to become better, and also the commitment to one day becoming a professional hockey player."
Harkins adds, "Josh is a great kid who comes from a great family, and we have no doubt that he'll represent the City of Prince George and Canada with a commitment to excellence and a willingness to win."
During the summer, Anderson was one of 108 players from across Canada who was invited to Hockey Canada's National Under-17 Development Camp, which was the first camp of its kind held by Hockey Canada. From there, Hockey Canada has selected roughly half of those players to represent Canada on three different teams (Black, Red and White) at the tournament. Previously, Canada had been represented by five regional teams: Pacific, West, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic.
