Havoc Sign Trio Of Rookie Defensemen

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc head coach Glenn Detulleo announced today that defensemen James Friedel, Brad Schuler and Tyler Turcotte have all signed tryout agreements with the team.

Friedel (6-1, 170) spent the 2012-13 season at the University of Regina where he scored three goals and recorded two assists in 27 games. The Kamloops, British Columbia native played in 239 career junior games and scored 16 goals, recorded 37 assists and had 373 penalty minutes.

"I'm excited to get James on the ice here in Huntsville," Detulleo said. "He's a puck moving defenseman with a high compete level that isn't afraid to get involved physically. He has the potential to jump in and make an immediate impact with our organization."

"I'm really excited to come down to Huntsville and do everything I can to bring team success and ultimately a championship," Friedel said. "I'm very happy to be a part of the Havoc."

Schuler (5-10, 185) spent the past four seasons playing college hockey at Skidmore College. The Delran, New Jersey native scored 20 goals and recorded 44 assists in 105 career games. He joined the Denver Cutthroats of the CHL and saw action in one playoff game. He played in 126 junior games and scored 57 goals and recorded 123 assists.

"Brad comes to Huntsville after a successful college career," Detulleo said. "He's a very good skating and puck moving defenseman who has experience playing forward as well. At this level, having versatile players is invaluable. I look forward to seeing Brad on the ice in training camp."

"I have heard nothing but positive things about the Huntsville Havoc organization, coaching staff, Havoc fans and Huntsville community," Schuler said. "I am excited about competing for the Havoc and working toward the goal of bringing a championship to Huntsville."

Turcotte (6-4, 225) joined the Mississippi Surge late last season after finishing his collegiate career at the University of Toronto. He played in eight games for the Surge and recorded one assist. He played in 121 games at Toronto where he scored three goals and recorded 23 assists. He played in 172 career junior games and scored 12 goals and recorded 46 assists.

"Tyler is a defenseman who we expect bring a physical presence to our blueline," Detulleo said. "He's had a taste of pro hockey late last season and is highly motivated to come to Huntsville and continue his development."

"I am excited to sign with an organization that has a reputation of being successful and driven," Turcotte said. "The coaches come highly recommended and I'm extremely excited for the opportunity to play in front of the best fans in the SPHL."

The Havoc open their home schedule on Saturday, November 1 at 7:30 against the Louisiana Ice Gators.
