Wheat Kings Trim Roster
October 1, 2014 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings announced more player moves Wednesday as they continue preparations for this weekend's two games at Westman Place.
17-year old center Kirklan Lycar and 19-year old defenceman Michael Mylchreest have been designated for assignment by the Western Hockey League club.
Wednesday's moves leaves the Wheat Kings with twenty-five players on their active roster - two goalkeepers, nine defenceman and fourteen forwards. Among them are newly acquired blueliner Macoy Erkamps and forward Reid Duke. Both were obtained from the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Tuesday afternoon in a deal that saw Brandon send veterans Ryley Lindgren, Kord Pankewicz and Brett Kitt to Alberta.
A fourth round draft choice of the Wheat Kings in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, Lycar scored eighteen goals and 45 points in 44 games for the Eastman AAA Midget Selects last season.
Mylchreest meanwhile is a former member of the Prince George Cougars, who spent the 2013-14 campaign with Springfield of the NAHL. The Moutain View, California product had four goals and 12 points in 56 games last season.
While both players had not seen action in any of the Wheat Kings four regular season games this year, they had each gone pointless in three pre-season games.
Meanwhile Erkamps and Duke arrived in Brandon earlier today and both took the ice for the hockey club's regular practice at Westman Communications Group Place. They're expected to make their Brandon debuts this Friday night when the Wheat Kings host the visiting Tri-City Americans.
Tickets to Friday's game, as well as Saturday's game against Red Deer are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
