September 29, 2014 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

Former Lexington Legend Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros completed a banner year by claiming the American League batting title with a .341 average, best in all of major league baseball. Altuve closed the season Sunday with two hits in four at bats to finish six points ahead of runner-up Victor Martinez of Detroit.

Altuve led the majors with 225 hits and broke the Astros' franchise record of 210 set by Craig Biggio in 1998. Altuve also led the major leagues in multi-hit games and in three-hit games.

The 5'5" second baseman led the AL in stolen bases with 56 and was second in doubles with 47.

With Lexington in 2010, Altuve batted .308 with 11 home runs and 45 runs batted in in 94 games with the Legends before being promoted. He also stole 39 bases and was a South Atlantic League mid-season and postseason All-Star. He was named to the Legends' Hall of Fame in 2014.
