Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan (September 29th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are excited to announce that affiliate Forward Casey Gilling has made his college commitment to play for the Wildcats of Northern Michigan University out of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) following his junior career.
Gilling, the Sault St. Marie, Michigan native, was drafted by the Lumberjacks during the recent USHL Phase I Draft last May in the 7th round (102nd overall) and is playing this season with the Omaha AAA Midget Minor team. Through five games played with Omaha, Gilling has totaled one goal and four assists.
"It's a good fit for me. I have heard nothing but great things about Head Coach Walt Kyle and the rest of the hockey program," shared Gilling. "I have a clear idea of how the program is run by Coach Kyle after talking with my Advisor Eddie Ward, past Coach Dallas Drake, and current Coach Dave Wilkie, who were all coached by him. It's a close-knit school and town that is close to home as well."
Last season, Gilling skated for the Soo Indians AAA Midget Major squad posting 19 goals and 29 assists in 56 games played.
