Portland Winterhawks News Release
Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
Since returning from the Winnipeg Jets' training camp, Chase De Leo has played three games and scored a goal in each, and added an assist for four points in three games. He is one of five players tied atop the team's leaderboard with four points, joining Evan Weinger, Tyson Predinchuk, Layne Viveiros and Skyler McKenzie.
Weinger, a rookie, scored his first two career goals in last night's loss to Everett. With four points, Predinchuk is already just one shy of his career-high, which he set in 25 games with the Spokane Chiefs in 2012-13. Last season he had three points for the Hawks in 20 games.
Sunday morning the Columbus Blue Jackets announced they had reassigned Oliver Bjorkstrand to the Winterhawks. While Bjorkstrand didn't return in time to play, he is expected to be back on the ice practicing this week. Nic Petan remains with the Winnipeg Jets, and is in the lineup tonight for a preseason game against the Edmonton Oilers. Petan scored in a preseason game Saturday against the Minnesota Wild.
After opening the season with four of their first five games at home, the Hawks will be racking up the miles in October. The team plays just three home games in October, while heading out for nine road games. Included in that is a six-game trek through the WHL's East Division, where Portland will travel to Moose Jaw, Brandon, Regina, Swift Current, Prince Albert and Saskatoon. Those six games will take place in a span of just nine days.
