Late Goal Sinks IceDogs

September 27, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

A late goal by Keigan Goetz handed the Niagara IceDogs their second straight loss Saturday night in Sault Ste. Marie.

The teams each scored a power play goal in the first period. Jordan Maletta jumped on a rebound and buried it past Brandon Halverson midway through the frame. The Greyhounds would strike with just seconds remaining as Blake Speers tied the game up.

Some great work by Cody Payne and Maletta led to Maletta's second goal of the night, as he fired one right through Halverson at the 11:46 mark of the second period. IceDogs goaltender Brent Moran made a series of great saves to preserve the lead heading into the final frame.

The lead evaporated early in the third, however, when Gabe Guertler beat Moran with a quick snap shot. Another late goal gave the Greyhounds the lead and, ultimately, the win, when Keigan Goetz put the puck in through a mad scramble in the crease.

The IceDogs hit the road again when they play the Mississauga Steelheads Friday night in Mississauga.
