Generals Dominate Mariners Minor League Awards

JACKSON, TENN (September 26, 2014) - Today the Seattle Mariners, Executive VP & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jack Zduriencik and Director of Player Development Chris Gwynn announced today the Mariners Minor League Awards for the 2014 season: Of the seven award winners, six spent time in Jackson during the 2014 season.

Co-Players of the Year

He was 1 of 5 minor league players to record a season of 30 or more home runs and 100 or more RBI, joining Kris Bryant-CHI (43 HR/110 RBI), Marquez Smith-CIN (38 HR/131 RBI), Steven Moya-DET (35 HR/105 RBI) and Joey Gallo-TEX (42 HR/106 RBI).

Lara combined to bat .337 (177x525) with 91 runs, 40 doubles, 5 triples, 26 home runs and 104 RBI in 135 games with High Desert and Jackson. He was T3rd in the minors with 71 extra-base hits, while also ranking 6th in RBI and 10th in slugging percentage (.581).

Pries split the season between Jackson and Tacoma, combining for a 10-8 with a 3.86 ERA (66 ER, 154.0 IP) over 27 games, 26 starts. After making 2 starts with Jackson, Pries went 9-8 with a 4.06 ERA (64 ER, 142.0 IP) in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He ranked 5th in the league with a .254 opponent batting average (4th among starters, .246) and 9th with a 4.06 ERA.

Diaz went 6-8 with a 3.33 ERA (43 ER, 116.1 IP) in 24 starts with Clinton in the Midwest League. He limited opponents to a .226 batting average (96x224), while walking 42 and striking out 111. Amongst Midwest League leader he ranked 4th in strikeouts per 9.0 innings (8.59) and T4th in lowest opponent batting average (.226).

Relief Pitcher of the Year

He limited opponents to a .208 average (54x260), while walking 18 and striking out 84. With Jackson he went 1-1 with 2 saves and a 1.64 ERA (6 ER, 33.0 IP) in 17 relief appearances. Amongst Mariners minor league pitchers his 0.995 WHIP and ERA were 2nd-lowest, and strikeout rate (10.05 K/9.0 IP) was 3rd-lowest (min. 30 G).
