Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-Eastern Iowa's most prestigious hockey trophy is in Waterloo, and the Black Hawks seek to defend the Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup beginning next Friday against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

The Hawks, Saints, and Cedar Rapids RoughRiders compete annually for Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup, awarded based on the head-to-head standings from games between the clubs.

"We are excited for the third season of partnering with the three eastern Iowa teams for the Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup," said Prairie Farms Sales Manager Stacy Wand. "All three of these cities support our company and our great products. We are thrilled to be able to continue to work with these teams and the Cowbell Cup."

Each team will play 12 games as part of the series, meeting each of their rivals six times apiece.

Waterloo and Dubuque faceoff on October 3, November 14, January 3, February 28, March 13 and April 11. The Hawks and RoughRiders begin their series on October 17, then continue on November 27, November 29, February 14, March 27, April 10.

The Fighting Saints and the RoughRiders play eight USHL regular season games against each other, so matchups on Saturday, September 27th in Cedar Rapids and the Friday, January 2nd in Dubuque will not count towards the Cowbell Cup standings.

Their Cowbell Cup contests will be on November 15, February 6, February 7, February 22, March 21 and March 28.

Last season, the Hawks won the Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup with a mark of 8-2-2 and 18 standings points. Dubuque finished second with 13, followed by Cedar Rapids with 8.

Prairie Farms Dairy became the title sponsor of the Cowbell Cup in 2012. The company, headquartered in Carlinville, Illinois, has a wide footprint in Iowa, including a plant in Dubuque and a distribution branch in Iowa City.
