Brampton A's Announce First Returning Player

September 25, 2014 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Orangeville A's News Release

The Brampton A's are excited to announce their first returning player. Melvin Council will be returning to the A's roster for the 2014-15 season.  Council, a two-year veteran of the NBL Canada played his first season for the Saint John Mill Rats in the Atlantic Division before coming to play for the A's last season.

The Robert Morris University graduate was a two-time NAIA Division 1 All American, and helped his team get to the Final Four in back to back campaigns. Upon graduation he played professionally in Mexico, China and several years for his hometown PBL (Premier Basketball League) team, the Rochester RazorSharks, where they won 3 straight championships.

During his time with the A's last season, Council was used as a consistent leader, who could be counted on when games got down to the wire.  GM/Head Coach David Magley stated, "Mel's maturity was something that we came to rely on as the season went on. He was always willing to do whatever it took to help us win.  If a player was struggling he would often ask to not start in order to help his teammate get going and then come in off the bench and help us close the quarter strong.  That kind of leadership cannot be overstated."

When asked about his return Melvin said, "I am looking forward to finishing what we started and joining our family as we go for a championship this year." Council will join the rest of the A's players for training camp October 1st.

The A's will kick off their season October 21st, with a "Toonie Tuesday" pre-season game at home, where fans will get in for just $2. The regular season starts as the A's host its Peel rival, the Mississauga Power, Saturday November 1st, 7pm at the Powerade Centre.
