Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, Sept. 22, 2014) - Chivas USA striker Erick "Cubo" Torres has been called up to the Mexican National Team as the Soccer Federation announced earlier on Monday. Torres will report to the High Performance Center located in Mexico City on Monday, Oct. 6, following the Red-and-White's home match against Real Salt Lake on Sunday, Oct. 5. As part of the international camp, El Tri will host preparation matches against Honduras in Chiapas and Panama in Queretaro on Oct. 9 and 12, respectively.

Torres earned his first call-up to the senior squad during the first FIFA date in early September, in which Mexico faced Chile and Bolivia on Sept. 6 and 9, respectively. The 21-year-old forward logged his first minutes against Bolivia, playing the full 90 minutes and helping lead the Mexican side to a 1-0 win.

The striker joined the Rojiblancos in July of 2013 and won the club's Golden Boot Award in his first MLS season. Since then, Torres continues to add to his accolades during the 2014 campaign, as the Guadalajara native was named to his first AT&T MLS All-Star Game in August while being named the league's Latino de la Jornada on numerous occasions.

Chivas USA and Torres begin their preparations to visit Western Conference foe Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday in the third and final leg of the season series. The match will be televised on KDOC-TV LA56 and Time Warner Cable Deportes beginning at 1 p.m. (PT) and can also be heard on ESPN Deportes Radio KWKU 1220 AM.
