Portland Winterhawks this Week

September 22, 2014 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

After three days of practice this week, the Hawks will leave Thursday to begin their first three-games-in-three-days set Friday in Vancouver. That will be followed by a pair of home games this weekend against the Everett Silvertips, both at the Moda Center. The game in Vancouver Friday is the only road game among the team's first six games.

Seven Winterhawks made their WHL debuts in this past weekend's games: goaltender Michael Bullion, defensemen Carter Czaikowski, Brendan De Jong, Nick Heid and forwards Jack Flaman, Alex Overhardt and Evan Weinger. In addition, the team had four other players who'd played less than 10 career WHL games: goaltender Adin Hill and forwards Skyler McKenzie, Reed Morison and Colton Veloso. The team was also without defensemen Josh Hanson and Blake Heinrich due to injury.

The Hawks enter the week with seven players still participating in NHL training camps: Oliver Bjorkstrand (who made his NHL preseason debut with the Columbus Blue Jackets yesterday), Brendan Burke (Arizona Coyotes), Anton Cederholm (Vancouver Canucks), Chase De Leo (Winnipeg Jets), Keegan Iverson (New York Rangers), Nic Petan (Winnipeg Jets) and Dominic Turgeon (Detroit Red Wings).
