Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Bethlehem, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are happy to announce the latest players that have signed on to join the Hawks in their 2015 championship pursuit. A cast of rookies are joining some veteran Steelhawks on Lehigh Valley's pre-season roster. Returning veteran Hawks include WR Brandon Renford (5'8, Niagara CC), DL Larry Ford (6'4, West Virginia), DL Vince Lands (6'1, Southern), DB Terrance Osborne (5'9, Delaware Valley).

Last year's team leading receiver Brandon Renford returns for his third season with the team. During 2014 he recorded 61 catches for 702 yards and 15 tds. Defensively the Steelhawks return two defensive linemen and a defensive back. Larry Ford is also in his third year with the Hawks. He was named to the 2013 All-PIFL 2nd team in a season in which he claimed the team's single sack record (7.5). He recorded eight tackles, one tackle for a loss, and two sacks in the Steelhawks 2014 campaign which saw him jump up and down from the Cleveland Gladiators franchise in the Arena Football League. Another three year player, Terrance Osborne was part of a dominant defensive backfield last season. He recorded 61.5 total tackles, 2 interceptions, 4 pass break ups, 2.5 tackles for a loss, and a sack. Vince Lands saw limited action in 2014, playing in only two games but still tallied four tackles, a sack and was credited with 1.5 tackles for a loss.

PIFL veterans DL Gerard Bryant (6'1, St. Lawrence), K Shawn Leo (5'10, West Chester) and LB Jeffrey Morgan (6'2, Wesley) spent last year across the Delaware playing for the Trenton Freedom. Bryant played in the Valley in 2012 before an injury shortened his season. Last year he was named 1st team All-PIFL after leading the Freedom with 10.5 sacks and 18.5 tackles for a loss. He also had 28.5 tackles and 4 forced fumbles. Leo had a solid year last season, converting 47 of 57 PATs and 7 of 23 FGs, accounting for 6.8 points per game. Morgan was another defensive force - 46 total tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, an interception and 4 fumble recoveries. DL Christopher Mayes (6'3, Wesley) played college ball with Morgan at Wesley.

The latest group added to the Steelhawks' rookie class include QB Ray Wagner (6'2, E. Stroudsburg), WR Zach McClain (5'11, Kansas Weslyan), DB Oliver Davis (5'9, Carson Newman), DB Tarryl Gano (5'10, Eastern Arizona). McClain and Gano have arena experience playing for the Salina Bombers (CPIFL) and Rochester Raiders (AIF) respectively. Wagner was named 2nd team All-PSAC his senior year at East Stroudsburg; and Davis was a preseason and postseason All-SAC selection.

Head Coach Chris Thompson is excited about how the team is coming together for the season. "We are off and running with our 2015 recruiting efforts and these recent signings have us very excited to say the least. We can't wait to start defending our 2014 National Conference Championship in our new arena. The season can't get here soon enough."

In accordance with PIFL rules, each team is allowed to sign 40 players to bring into training camp before making final cuts to get down to the 27 man season roster.
