Western New York Flash News Release

ELMA, N.Y. ( Monday, September 22, 2014 ) - After over a month without Flash soccer, the Rochester was treated to the return of Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd on Thursday night when the U.S. Women's National Team hosted Mexico at Sahlen's Stadium. However, outside of the Flower City, other Flash members were also in action this past week. Here's a look at how Flash players fared with their respective teams last week:

A Look Back: September 15-21

Wambach, Lloyd Complete Sweep of Mexico in Return to Rochester

After downing Mexico 8-0 the previous week, the U.S. Women's National Team beat Mexico 4-0 on Thursday night. In their return to Sahlen's Stadium, Carli Lloyd played all 90 minutes at midfield while hometown-hero Abby Wambach came into the game at the halftime break. Lloyd went on to be named the Budweiser Woman of the Match.

Spencer, Sydney FC Pick-Up Second Win

Jasmyne Spencer and Sydney FC moved to 2-0 on the season, beating Brisbane 2-1 in W-League play on Sunday. Despite playing with just 10 players for 29 minutes, the Sky Blues broke the deadlock in the 76th minute on a goal from Renee Rollason.

Perth Holds Off Newcastle

On Saturday, Angela Salem, Katherine Reynolds and the Newcastle Jets squared off with the Perth Glory and Samantha Kerr. Despite Salem setting up a Jets' goal on a long corner kick, Perth was able to come away with a 2-1 win on the road. All players featured for 90 minutes in the contest.

A Look Ahead: September 22-28

Newcastle at Brisbane - Sat., Sept. 27, 2014

Perry Park, 2 a.m. ET (4 p.m. AEST)

The Jets will look to rebound after Saturday's loss when they travel to face Brisbane on Saturday. With Salem leading the attack and Reynolds as a defensive stalwart, Newcastle will look to add another three points against the winless Roar.

Sydney FC at Western Sydney - Sat., Sept. 27, 2014

Marconi Stadium, 1 a.m. ET (3 p.m. AEST)

Second-place Sydney FC hits the road for the Sydney Derby, facing the Wanderers who currently sit at the bottom of the table. With Spencer continuing her speed up top, Sydney FC hopes to win its third-straight and move to 3-0 on the young season.
