NLL Player Awards Tonight Live on NLL.Com

September 21, 2014 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Edmonton Rush News Release

Edmonton, AB---The Edmonton Rush are being well-represented at the National Lacrosse League's award ceremony which takes place tonight in Toronto.

Several players are in the hunt for NLL hardware including Jeremy Thompson, Aaron Bold, and Robert Church, and Rush staff, Derek Keenan is up for both GM and Coach of the Year while Rush Owner Bruce Urban is nominated for Executive of the Year. Yet it's one category in particular that the Rush will be really focused upon - the NLL's Defensive Player of the Year award.

Edmonton's Kyle Rubisch is the two-time defending Defensive Player of the Year and is generally regarded as the best in the league at his position. However, the primary challenger to Rubisch's reign is fellow Rush rearguard Chris Corbeil. The Rush are blessed with arguably the best crop of defenders in the NLL with Rubisch and Corbeil at the front of the pack.

General Manager and Head Coach Derek Keenan will have the honours of presenting the Rookie of the Year Award. Keenan won Rookie of the Year Award in 1992 with the Buffalo Bandits as the oldest rookie of the year in league history at the age 31 years old.

Coverage begins on Sunday morning with Combine scrimmage games at 11 a.m. ET - 9 a.m. MST. Players have the opportunity to make one final impression on general managers and head coaches by showcasing their skills in a practice setting through structured games.

On Sunday evening, the league will announce 2014 season award winners including the NLL's Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, All-Pro and All-Rookie Teams, with the ceremony set to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.- 5:30 a.m. MST. The finalists for the 2014 NLL Season Awards are listed below. Claude Feig will serve as the host for the event which will include guest speakers and presenters.

The weekend will culminate with the 2014 NLL Draft on Monday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. ET. - 5 p.m. MST. All three events at TRAC are open to the public with admission free of charge. Limited seating is available and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
