Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (10-9-10, 40 points) beat the New England Revolution (13-13-3, 42 points) by a final score of 1-0 at Crew Stadium on Saturday, September 20. The match featured a sellout crowd of 21,318 - the fourth of 2014, establishing a new single-season club record at Crew Stadium.

The victory came on a night where the Black & Gold inducted club legend Frankie Hejduk into their Circle of Honor during a halftime ceremony. Hejduk, flanked by his family and several past Crew teammates, including fellow Circle of Honor member Brian McBride, played eight seasons for the Crew and helped the club win four trophies.

On the pitch, Federico Higuain's bending free kick just after halftime would be all the Black & Gold needed on the night to secure three points. The goal was Higuain's team-leading tenth of the season. In the waning moments of the match, Steve Clark's fingertip save helped preserve the victory, keeping the Crew above the red line in the MLS Cup Playoff chase.

The Crew continues its two-match homestand with a meeting against the Montreal Impact on Saturday, September 27 (7:30 p.m. ET, Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
