San Jose Earthquakes News Release

MONTREAL, Quebec - The San Jose Earthquakes lost 2-0 on the road against the Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo on Saturday night. The game was deadlocked for 80 minutes before the Impact broke through for two goals in the final 10 minutes to take the victory.

After fighting through the first half, the Quakes had two great chances to take the lead midway through the second half. On the first, Shea Salinas found space on the left wing and curled a left-footed cross in for Atiba Harris, who powered a header that just missed the back post. Moments later, Sam Cronin had a shot from distance that seemed destined for the corner before whistling past the post.

The Impact took the lead in the 81st minute through Jack McInerney. Marco Di Vaio's shot was saved by Quakes goalkeeper Jon Busch, but the rebound deflected off McInerney into the net.

With the game winding down, Dilly Duka scored the Impact's second, maneuvering around a Quakes defender in the box before finding the far post side-netting for a 2-0 lead.

The Earthquakes play their second straight on the road next Saturday, Sept. 27 against the Colorado Rapids at Dicks Sporting Goods Park. The game kicks off at 6 p.m. PT live on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area and 1370 KZSF.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH MARK WATSON

On game:

"It was a disappointing result for us. We got through the first half where they had the better of the play and in the second half we really came into the game. We were dominant in the second half and had some great chances. Just not good enough in the end and that has been happening too much recently."

On current situation:

"We can't do anything right now but look to the next game and go into it with a good mentality. It's a tough situation right now and we are disappointed. We seem to just be finding ways to lose games right now."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD ATIBA HARRIS

On opportunities to score:

"I thought we had the chances to win the game. Personally, I should have put away one for sure and I wish I could get that one back. We had the chances and we didn't convert them and then they got one out of nothing. Sometimes that is the way the game goes. On another night, maybe we score one or two of those and we get the win."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER SAM CRONIN

On conceding two late goals:

"We were pushing for the win. At this point in the season, we need the win. It was disappointing to give those two late goals away. I think individually it was poor defending and we need to do better than that."

On match up in midfield:

"I think it was fine. I think they do a good job getting a lot of numbers centrally in midfield. We try to get in good spots and plug the holes as best as we could. All in all, it was okay and we didn't give them much there."
