Skeeters Clinch Playoff Spot with Win over York

(Sugar Land, T.X., September 19, 2014) - The Sugar Land Skeeters win 2-1 over York to secure a spot in the playoffs on Friday night. With another win or a Lancaster loss, the team will take the Freedom Division second half title.

Steve Hammond took the hill for Sugar Land and pitched 5.0 innings. The lefty allowed just three hits and collected two strikeouts, earning his 10th win.

The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fifth when Travis Scott sent one over the wall in right field to score the first run for the Skeeters. The homer marks Scott's 12th of the season.

In the bottom of the sixth, Adam Godwin hit a single and then narrowly stole second on a slide. Delwyn Young then singled when York outfielders missed the ball and Godwin advanced to third. Travis Denker singled to left field, allowing Godwin to score.

The bullpen took over for Hammond in the sixth and allowed just one run over a combined four innings. Brian Broderick collected the save after pitching a scoreless ninth.

Sugar Land faces York again on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. CT. Left-hander Dan Meadows (3-5, 3.74 ERA) hopes to lead the Skeeters to a win against Jorge Martinez (10-8, 3.36 ERA) and the Revolution at Constellation Field.
